Ketuvím

Ketuvim, also known as the Writings, is the third and final section of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh). It comprises a diverse collection of books, ranging from historical accounts and poetry to wisdom literature and prophecy. Unlike the Torah (Law) and Nevi'im (Prophets), Ketuvim does not follow a strict chronological or thematic order. Its placement in the Tanakh signifies its unique position and the varied nature of its content.

The books within Ketuvim are traditionally divided into several categories, though these divisions are not always explicit. This section includes the poetic books: Psalms, Proverbs, and Job, which explore themes of worship, wisdom, and human suffering. It also contains the Five Megillot (Scrolls): Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, and Esther, each read on specific occasions in the Jewish calendar. Additionally, Ketuvim includes historical books like Chronicles, Ezra, and Nehemiah, as well as Daniel, which blends prophecy with apocalyptic visions. The authorship and compilation of these texts span many centuries, reflecting different periods and literary styles within ancient Israelite society. The inclusion of Ketuvim in the Tanakh highlights the breadth of religious, historical, and literary expression considered sacred within Judaism.
