Keräystaajuudet, often translated as collection frequencies or sampling rates, refer to the rate at which a signal is sampled or measured to convert it into a digital format. This is a fundamental concept in digital signal processing and is crucial for accurately representing analog signals in the digital domain. The Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem states that to perfectly reconstruct an analog signal from its digital samples, the sampling rate must be at least twice the highest frequency component present in the signal. If the sampling rate is too low, a phenomenon called aliasing occurs, where higher frequencies are misrepresented as lower frequencies, leading to distortion and loss of information.
