Keltaisten

Keltaisten is a grammatical form in Finnish, not a standalone concept. It is the genitive plural form of the adjective keltainen, meaning yellow. In ordinary use, it appears when the adjective modifies a plural noun in the genitive case, indicating possession or association with yellow things.

In Finnish, adjectives decline to agree with the noun they describe in number and case. For the plural genitive, the form is keltaisten. The corresponding nominative plural is keltaiset, and the genitive singular of the adjective is keltaisen (as in keltaisen talon meaning “of the yellow house”). The partitive plural of the same adjective is keltaisia (as in keltaisia taloja, “yellow houses” as an object).

Usage examples illustrate the function: keltaisten talojen katto on näkyvissä (the roof of the yellow houses is visible). Here, talojen is genitive plural, and keltaisten agrees with that noun in the genitive plural in a phrase describing the houses. Another example: keltaisten kukkien väri on kirkas (the color of the yellow flowers is bright).
