Kaupunkikunta

A kaupunkikunta, meaning "city municipality" in Finnish, is a specific type of municipality in Finland that has been granted city status. While the administrative distinction between a town (kaupunki) and a rural municipality (kunta) has largely been abolished in Finland, the term kaupunkikunta often refers to those municipalities that historically held city status. These municipalities typically possess a higher population density and a more developed urban infrastructure compared to many rural municipalities.
