Kasvurakenteet

Kasvurakenteet (literally “growth structures”) is a Finnish term used in biology and related fields to describe anatomical or engineered features that enable growth and development in organisms or systems. The concept covers structural elements at cellular, tissue, organ, or ecosystem levels that support or regulate growth, differentiation, and form. In practice, kasvurakenteet may refer to natural architectures and to designed scaffolds used in research and industry to guide growth.

In biology, kasvurakenteet include plant meristems, which serve as reservoirs of stem cells for growth, and cambial tissues responsible for secondary growth in woody plants. They also encompass other zones where cells divide, expand, and differentiate to produce new tissues. In animals, growth-related architectures include structures such as epiphyseal plates in bones and connective tissue frameworks that guide organ formation and development. In tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, scaffolds, hydrogels, and biocompatible matrices are described as kasvurakenteet that direct cell proliferation and tissue regeneration.
