Karyotypiksi is a term used in genetics to refer to the process of preparing and analyzing chromosomes. It specifically denotes the visual representation of an individual's complete set of chromosomes, arranged in homologous pairs and ordered by size. This arrangement is known as a karyotype. The preparation typically involves collecting cells, stimulating them to divide, arresting them at metaphase when chromosomes are most condensed and visible, and then staining them to reveal characteristic banding patterns.
