Karbonyyliryhmä, also known as the carbonyl group, is a functional group in organic chemistry consisting of a carbon atom double-bonded to an oxygen atom. The general formula for a carbonyl group is C=O. This group is fundamental in the structure and reactivity of many organic compounds. The carbon atom in the carbonyl group is sp2 hybridized, which means it has trigonal planar geometry, with the carbon-oxygen double bond and two other bonds or lone pairs of electrons.
