Karbonaadiiooniks
Karbonaadiiooniks is the Finnish word for the carbonate ion. The carbonate ion is a polyatomic anion with the chemical formula CO32-. It consists of a central carbon atom covalently bonded to three oxygen atoms. The overall charge of the ion is -2, with the negative charge distributed equally among the oxygen atoms due to resonance. Carbonate is a common and stable ion found in many minerals, such as calcite (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) and dolomite (calcium magnesium carbonate, CaMg(CO3)2). It plays a crucial role in various geological processes, including the formation of sedimentary rocks and karst landscapes. In biological systems, carbonate ions are important for shell and bone formation in many organisms. The carbonate ion is the conjugate base of the bicarbonate ion (HCO3-) and the conjugate base of carbonic acid (H2CO3). It can participate in acid-base reactions, acting as a weak base. The presence of carbonate ions in water can affect its pH and alkalinity.
