Karboksaatat

Karboksaatat is a Finnish term that translates to "carboxylic acid" in English. Carboxylic acids are organic compounds characterized by the presence of a carboxyl group, which consists of a carbonyl group (C=O) bonded to a hydroxyl group (O-H). The general formula for a carboxylic acid is R-COOH, where R represents an alkyl or aryl group, or even another hydrogen atom in the case of formic acid.

These compounds are generally acidic due to the ability of the hydroxyl group to donate a proton. The acidity of carboxylic acids varies depending on the structure of the R group. They can undergo a variety of chemical reactions, including esterification, amide formation, and reduction. Carboxylic acids are found naturally in many foods, such as fruits (citric acid, malic acid) and vinegar (acetic acid).
