Karatolyyttisissä

Karatolyyttisissä is a Finnish term that translates to "in the karats" or "made of karats" in English. It refers to the purity of precious metals, particularly gold, and is expressed using the karat system. This system quantifies the proportion of pure gold in an alloy. Pure gold is defined as 24 karats (24k). When a metal is described as karatolyyttisissä, it indicates that it is made of an alloy where the gold content is less than 24k, and its purity is specified by a lower karat number.

For instance, 18 karat gold, which is 75% pure gold (18/24 = 0.75), would be considered karatolyyttisissä. Similarly, 14 karat gold (58.3% pure gold) and 10 karat gold (41.7% pure gold) are also examples of alloys described as karatolyyttisissä. The remaining percentage of the alloy consists of other metals, such as copper, silver, or zinc, which are added to increase the durability, alter the color, or reduce the cost of the jewelry or item.
