Kansainliitonmaat

Kansainliitonmaat refers to the member states of the League of Nations, an international organization founded in 1920 after World War I with the goal of preventing future wars. Membership in the League was voluntary, and countries could join or withdraw. The number of member states fluctuated throughout the League's existence, reaching a peak of 58 states in the 1930s.

The original signatories of the Treaty of Versailles, which established the League, were invited to become members. Over time, many other nations joined, including countries from Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. However, some major powers, such as the United States, never joined, and others like Germany and the Soviet Union joined later and eventually withdrew.

The League of Nations aimed to promote international cooperation, collective security, and peaceful dispute resolution. Its member states contributed to various commissions and committees addressing issues like disarmament, health, and economic cooperation. The effectiveness of the League was ultimately limited, and it failed to prevent the outbreak of World War II, leading to its dissolution in 1946 and the establishment of the United Nations. The term Kansainliitonmaat therefore encompasses all those states that were part of this pioneering, albeit ultimately unsuccessful, international body.
