Kalksteinen
Kalksteinen is a term used in Nordic languages to denote limestone or limestone formations. It is also the name of several localities and quarries in Nordic regions. In geology, limestone is a sedimentary rock built mostly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) that originates from the accumulation of shells, corals, foraminifera, and other carbonate-rich debris in marine environments. It often forms in warm, shallow seas and can be fossiliferous; depending on pressure and chemistry it may be dense, fine-grained, or crystalline. Distinct textures include fossiliferous limestone, oolitic limestone, and dolomitic varieties when magnesium substitutes for calcium.
