Kaipa

Kaipa is a Swedish progressive rock band formed in the early 1970s by keyboardist Hans Lundin and guitarist Roine Stolt. The group is associated with the early wave of European symphonic prog and is known for melodic, keyboard-driven compositions and extended instrumental passages that showcase technical proficiency and musical imagination.

The band released its self-titled debut, Kaipa, in 1975, followed by Inget Nytt Under Solen (Nothing New Under the Sun) in 1976. These early albums helped establish Kaipa as a notable name within the international prog scene, particularly among listeners of Nordic and European progressive rock. After a period of lineup changes, the group effectively paused activity in the early 1980s as members pursued other projects.

Kaipa reformed in the 2000s with a newer lineup while continuing the tradition of expansive, melodic progressive rock. The revival maintained the band’s reputation among prog fans and contributed to the ongoing revival of Swedish and Nordic progressive music. The Kaipa legacy has also inspired related projects and collaborations, including Kaipa DaCapo, which carries forward elements of the original sound while exploring new directions.
