Jódtitrálás

Jódtitrálás, also known as iodometric titration, is a common analytical chemistry technique used to determine the concentration of oxidizing or reducing agents in a solution. It is a type of redox titration that involves the use of iodine or iodide ions as the titrant or analyte. The fundamental principle behind jódtitrálás relies on the reversible reaction between iodine and iodide ions to form triiodide ions.

There are two main approaches to jódtitrálás: direct and indirect titration. In direct iodometric titration, an oxidizing agent is directly titrated with a standard solution of iodine. The endpoint is usually detected using a starch indicator, which forms a distinct blue-black complex with iodine. In indirect iodometric titration, an oxidizing agent reacts with an excess of iodide ions to liberate iodine. This liberated iodine is then titrated with a standard solution of a reducing agent, typically sodium thiosulfate, using starch as the indicator. The endpoint is reached when the blue-black color disappears.

Jódtitrálás is widely applied in various fields, including the determination of vitamin C content, the analysis of disinfectants, and the quantification of dissolved oxygen in water. The accuracy of the method depends on careful preparation of standard solutions and precise observation of the endpoint.
