Järjestyksennumerot, known in English as ordinal numbers, are a type of numeral that expresses order or position in a sequence. Unlike cardinal numbers, which indicate quantity, ordinal numbers specify rank. For instance, "one" is a cardinal number, while "first" is an ordinal number. In Finnish, ordinal numbers are typically formed by adding a suffix to the base numeral. For example, the cardinal number "kaksi" (two) becomes "toinen" (second).

The formation of Finnish ordinal numbers follows a pattern that can vary slightly depending on the numeral itself. Common suffixes include -nen, -s, and -s.
