Jounieh

Jounieh is a coastal town in Lebanon, situated on the Mediterranean shore about 15 kilometers north of Beirut. It is the administrative center of the Keserwan District and forms part of the Keserwan-Jbeil Governorate, established in 2014 from portions of Mount Lebanon Governorate. The town sits at the edge of a sheltered bay with a backdrop of hills and is connected to major routes along the coast.

Jounieh is a regional commercial and tourist hub, known for its lively waterfront, marina, shopping streets, and wide range of restaurants and cafes. The promenade along the coast attracts locals and visitors alike, while the surrounding hills offer residential neighborhoods and access to natural scenery. The town serves as a gateway to northern Keserwan and the Lebanese highlands.

A prominent landmark is the Our Lady of Lebanon statue in Harissa, visible from Jounieh. A cable car link runs from the Jounieh waterfront to Harissa, providing access to the shrine and panoramic views of the bay. The old town retains traditional markets and churches, alongside modern hotels and entertainment venues.

The port and fisheries sector contribute to the economy, complemented by retail, hospitality, and services. Jounieh remains an important node in the Beirut metropolitan region, reflecting a blend of historic character and contemporary development.
