Jalore

Jalore is a city and the administrative headquarters of Jalore district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is in the western part of the state, close to the Gujarat border, and sits on the plains preceding the Aravalli Hills. The city is the hub of district-level government and commerce.

Geography and climate. Jalore lies in a semi-arid region with hot summers and a comparatively brief monsoon season. The area supports agriculture with irrigation from canal networks and monsoon rains.

History and landmarks. The Jalore Fort, a hill fort overlooking the town, is a major historical landmark dating to medieval times. It is associated with several dynasties and is noted for its sieges in regional chronicles, including accounts of a siege by Alauddin Khalji in the late 13th century.

Demographics and culture. The city has a mix of communities common to western Rajasthan. Local culture includes traditional crafts, fairs, and religious sites such as temples and mosques that reflect Hindu and Muslim communities.

Economy and infrastructure. The economy is largely agricultural, with crops adapted to arid conditions and livestock rearing. Jalore serves as an administrative and commercial center for the surrounding talukas, with road connectivity to major towns and state highways.
