Jakolaskun
Jakolaskun refers to the division calculation, the arithmetic operation that determines how many times a divisor fits into a dividend, yielding a quotient. When the dividend is not an exact multiple of the divisor, a remainder remains.
In Finnish, jakolasku is formed from jakaa (to divide) and lasku (calculation); jakolaskun is the genitive form
Notation: D = d*q + r with 0 ≤ r < d; quotient q is the result of the division;
Methods: short division (stepwise) and long division; polynomial division using long or synthetic division. In decimal
History and role: division has ancient origins, with early systems from Egypt and Babylon; the modern algorithm
