Jahreswärmeindex

The Jahreswärmeindex, often translated as Annual Heat Index or Annual Heating Index, is a meteorological and climatological parameter used to quantify the heating needs of a building or a region over the course of a year. It essentially represents the cumulative amount of heat energy that must be supplied to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature, taking into account both the ambient outdoor temperature and the duration of cold periods.

This index is calculated by integrating the difference between a reference indoor temperature (usually around 20°C or 68°F) and the average outdoor temperature over a specific period, typically a heating season. Periods where the outdoor temperature falls below this reference threshold are considered when calculating the index. Factors such as the number of heating degree days (HDD) are fundamental to its computation. Higher values of the Jahreswärmeindex indicate a greater demand for heating.

The Jahreswärmeindex is a valuable tool for various applications.
