Abraham, also known as Avraham in Hebrew, is a central figure in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and is considered the father of the Israelites. According to the Abrahamic religions, Abraham was born in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the region that is now southern Iraq, around 1813 BCE. His father was Terah, and his mother was Sarah. Abraham is best known for his faith and obedience to God, as described in the Book of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible.

He is said to have been commanded by God to leave his homeland and migrate to the land of Canaan, which would later become the homeland of the Israelites. Abraham is also known for his willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac, as commanded by God, an event that is described in the Book of Genesis. Despite this, Abraham is ultimately rewarded with the birth of his son Isaac, who would become the father of the Israelites.

Abraham is also known for his relationship with God, which is described as a covenant, or a binding agreement.
