Isotonfongas
Isotonfongas is a genus of fungi in the family Isotonfongaceae. It was circumscribed by Chinese mycologists in 2019, with Isotonfongas sinensis as the type species. The genus is characterized by its ascomata (fruit bodies) that are immersed in the host tissue, and its asci (spore-bearing cells) that are bitunicate, meaning they have two layers of wall material. The spores produced by Isotonfongas are hyaline (translucent), ellipsoidal, and measure 10-12 by 5-6 micrometers. Isotonfongas sinensis was originally described as a species of Phaeosphaeria, but was later transferred to the newly established genus Isotonfongas. The genus name Isotonfongas is derived from the Greek words "isos" meaning equal, and "tonfon" referring to the host plant, Tonfon (Pterocarpus indicus). The genus currently includes only one known species, Isotonfongas sinensis.
