Isomerasetype is a general term referring to enzymes that catalyze the rearrangement of atoms within a molecule, converting one isomer into another. Isomers are compounds with the same molecular formula but different structural arrangements of atoms. These enzymes play a crucial role in metabolic pathways across all known life forms.

The mechanism of isomerization typically involves the breaking and reforming of chemical bonds to create a new spatial arrangement of atoms.
