Isomeerimuotoa, also known as isomers in English, are compounds that have the same molecular formula but differ in the arrangement of their atoms. Structural isomers have the same molecular formula but differ in the bonding sequence of their atoms. For example, butane (C4H10) has two structural isomers: n-butane and isobutane. In n-butane, the carbon atoms are arranged in a straight chain, while in isobutane, one carbon atom is branched off from the main chain.

Stereoisomers, on the other hand, have the same molecular formula and the same bonding sequence but differ in the spatial arrangement of their atoms. Stereoisomers can be further divided into geometric (cis-trans) isomers and optical (enantiomeric) isomers. Geometric isomers differ in the spatial arrangement around a double bond, while optical isomers are non-superimposable mirror images of each other.
