Isocyanuratebased refers to chemical compounds that contain the isocyanurate ring structure as a fundamental component. The isocyanurate ring is a six-membered heterocyclic ring composed of alternating nitrogen and carbonyl carbon atoms, with the general formula (CNCO)3. This core structure is derived from the trimerization of isocyanates.

Isocyanuratebased compounds are particularly important in the field of polymer chemistry, most notably in the formation of polyisocyanurate foams, often referred to as PIR foams. These foams are created by reacting polyisocyanates with a blowing agent and other additives. The isocyanurate ring formation is a cross-linking reaction that occurs at higher temperatures than the urethane formation in polyurethane. This increased cross-linking leads to PIR foams having superior thermal stability and fire resistance compared to their polyurethane counterparts.
