Ionszelektív refers to a property of certain materials or devices that allows them to selectively interact with or detect specific types of ions. This selectivity is crucial in various scientific and technological applications. For instance, ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) are a common example. These electrochemical sensors are designed to measure the concentration of a specific ion in a solution. They achieve this through a specialized membrane that is permeable to only one type of ion, or that binds preferentially to a particular ion.

The mechanism behind ion selectivity often involves a carefully engineered membrane material. This material might have charged functional groups that attract and bind ions of opposite charge, or it might possess a specific pore size that allows only certain ions to pass through. The difference in ion activity across the membrane generates a measurable electrical potential, which can then be correlated to the concentration of the target ion.
