Inverurie

Inverurie is a town and parish in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, located about 16 miles (26 km) northwest of Aberdeen in the Don valley. It serves as a local center for surrounding rural communities and features a compact town center with shops, eateries and a mix of residential areas.

Historically a market town, Inverurie grew as a commercial center for agriculture and local trade. In the 19th century the Great North of Scotland Railway established the Inverurie Locomotive Works nearby, which operated for about a century and shaped the town's growth before closing in the mid-20th century.

Today Inverurie retains its market-town character with a busy town centre and a range of services for residents and the rural hinterland. The nearby Thainstone Centre hosts one of the United Kingdom's largest cattle markets, reflecting the continuing importance of agriculture in the area.

Transport links include Inverurie railway station on the Aberdeen–Inverness line, with regular services to Aberdeen and Inverness; the town is also connected by the A96 road.

Inverurie is served by Inverurie Academy, the town's secondary school, along with several primary schools and community facilities.
