Interjektsioon

Interjektsioon, also known as an exclamation or interjection, is a part of speech that expresses sudden or strong emotion. It stands alone as a sentence or is inserted into a sentence to convey feelings such as surprise, pain, joy, disgust, or anger. Interjections are often considered independent words or phrases that do not have a grammatical relationship with the rest of the sentence.

Examples of interjections include "Wow!", "Ouch!", "Hurray!", "Ugh!", and "Hey!". They can be single words or short phrases. The meaning of an interjection is usually clear from the context and the tone of voice in which it is spoken. While some interjections are universal, others can be culturally specific.

In written language, interjections are typically followed by an exclamation mark to indicate the strong emotion they convey. However, they can also be followed by a comma if the emotion is less intense or if the interjection is used as a mild interrupter. Grammatically, interjections are a distinct category, separate from nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, and articles. They add expressiveness and naturalness to language, reflecting spontaneous human reactions.
