InterNorth

InterNorth Incorporated was an American energy company based in Omaha, Nebraska. It operated as an integrated energy firm with activities across oil and gas exploration and production, refining, marketing, pipelines, and natural gas distribution. During the mid- to late-20th century, InterNorth expanded through acquisitions and internal growth, developing a large national footprint in North America.

Formation and growth: InterNorth originated from the consolidation of several regional energy interests in the Midwest and northern United States. Its diversification into refining and pipelines helped it become one of the larger independent energy companies in the United States before its merger.

Merger and legacy: In 1981, InterNorth merged with Continental Oil Company (Conoco) to form Conoco, Inc., ending the InterNorth corporate identity. The Conoco lineage continued to evolve, and in 2002 Conoco merged with Phillips Petroleum to form ConocoPhillips. In 2012, ConocoPhillips split into two separate entities: ConocoPhillips, focused on upstream operations, and Phillips 66, which took on the downstream and midstream businesses. The InterNorth name did not survive as a continuing brand, but its corporate history is part of the ancestry of ConocoPhillips and the downstream entity Phillips 66.
