Inspecereinspectus is a fictional genus of tiny freshwater invertebrates introduced to illustrate issues in taxonomic naming. It is currently described as a monotypic genus containing the species Inspecereinspectus inspectus. The genus is placed among informal “microfauna” and has not been assigned to a widely recognized family or order in established classification systems.

The name combines Latin roots inspecere (“to inspect”) and inspectus (“inspected”), with the repeated element intended to emphasize iterative examination across studies. The species epithet inspectus mirrors the genus root.

Members are 1–3 mm in length, soft-bodied, and translucent. The body is elongated with a rounded anterior region; sensory bristles and a pair of simple ocular spots may be present; the cuticle bears fine annulations and a fringe of minute cilia along the ventral surface.

Found in shaded, slow-moving freshwater pools with abundant leaf litter; detritivores feeding on microalgae and decomposing organic matter. Reproduction is variably described in speculative contexts, and individuals are rarely observed in field surveys, contributing to limited empirical data on their life history.

Because the name uses a compounded, repeated element, Inspecereinspectus has been cited in discussions on linguistic creativity in scientific naming and used as a cautionary example in debates over nomenclatural clarity. It is not recognized in formal taxonomic databases outside speculative literature.
