Infranuclear

Infranuclear refers to the region of the cell nucleus that is located beneath the nuclear envelope, which is the double membrane that surrounds the nucleus. This region is distinct from the nucleoplasm, which is the fluid-filled space within the nuclear envelope. The infranuclear region is characterized by its dense, granular appearance under a microscope, which is due to the presence of various nuclear structures and components.

One of the key features of the infranuclear region is the presence of nuclear pores, which are large protein complexes that span the nuclear envelope. These pores allow for the selective transport of molecules and ions between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. The infranuclear region also contains nuclear lamina, a protein network that underlies the inner nuclear membrane and provides structural support to the nucleus.

In addition to nuclear pores and lamina, the infranuclear region houses several other nuclear structures, including nucleoli, which are involved in ribosome biogenesis, and chromatin, which is the complex of DNA and proteins that makes up the genetic material of the cell.
