Indício

Indício is a Portuguese word that translates to "clue," "sign," "hint," or "indication" in English. It refers to any piece of evidence, information, or observation that suggests the existence or truth of something, even if it is not definitive proof. Indícios are often used in investigations, reasoning, and decision-making to form hypotheses or draw conclusions.

In legal contexts, an indício can be a fact or circumstance that, when considered alongside other facts, points towards the guilt or innocence of a person. It is not direct evidence, which conclusively links a person to a crime, but rather circumstantial evidence that requires interpretation and inference. For example, finding a person's fingerprints at a crime scene might be an indício, suggesting they were present, but it doesn't automatically prove they committed the crime.

Beyond the legal field, indícios are important in scientific research and everyday life. Scientists look for indícios in data to support or refute theories. In everyday conversations, a change in someone's tone of voice or a subtle facial expression can be an indício of their true feelings.
