Imukärkiset

Imukärkiset is a Finnish term that generally refers to suction cup-like appendages found on various organisms. These structures are typically soft, flexible, and designed to adhere to surfaces through suction. Their primary function is often for attachment, allowing an organism to anchor itself to a substrate, move around, or capture prey.

The specific appearance and function of imukärkiset can vary greatly depending on the organism. In marine invertebrates like sea stars, imukärkiset are located on the undersides of their arms and are used for locomotion and for prying open bivalve shells.
