Impulssmoment

Impulssmoment, also known as angular momentum, is a fundamental concept in physics that describes the rotational analogue of linear momentum. Just as linear momentum is a measure of an object's motion in a straight line and depends on its mass and velocity, impulse moment quantifies an object's rotational motion and depends on its moment of inertia and angular velocity. The moment of inertia is the rotational equivalent of mass, indicating how resistant an object is to changes in its rotational motion. Angular velocity describes how fast an object is spinning.

Impulssmoment is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude and direction. Its direction is typically defined along the axis of rotation. A key principle related to impulse moment is the law of conservation of angular momentum. This law states that in the absence of external torques, the total angular momentum of a system remains constant. This principle explains phenomena such as the increase in rotational speed of a figure skater when they pull their arms in, or the stable rotation of a gyroscope.
