Impressioner

Impressioner is an English noun formed from impression with the agent suffix -er. It is not a standard term in modern English and is rarely used outside historical or specialized contexts.

In historical minting and metalwork, an impressioner may refer to a craftsman who creates dies to imprint a design on metal. In this sense, the role aligns with that of a die-cutter or engraver, though older sources may label such workers impressioners.

In printing and typography, an impressioner could designate a person who makes or applies an impression from a block, plate, or type. The more common terms in contemporary usage are printer or engraver.

In archaeology or artifact reproduction, impressioner sometimes appears in descriptions of individuals who cast or take impressions of textures or forms for study or replication; again, this usage is uncommon today.

Because it is not widely used, impressioner can cause ambiguity. When precision is needed, it is better to use more specific terms such as engraver, die-cutter, printer, pressman, or mold-maker, depending on the activity.
