Imperfectywny

Imperfectywny is a term used in linguistics to describe a grammatical aspect of verbs, particularly prevalent in Slavic languages like Polish and Russian. It refers to an action that is ongoing, habitual, repetitive, or incomplete. Unlike the perfective aspect, which denotes a completed action with a definite beginning and end, the imperfective aspect emphasizes the duration or process of the action itself.

For example, in Polish, the verb "czytać" (to read) is imperfective. When one says "Czytam książkę" (I am reading a book), it implies the action of reading is in progress. The perfective counterpart would be "przeczytać" (to read, to finish reading), as in "Przeczytałem książkę" (I read the book, meaning I finished it). The imperfective aspect can also describe habitual actions, such as "Codziennie czytam książkę" (Every day I read a book).
