Ilulttes

Ilultes or Nantuwa or Sambono or Ilult'a is a hill located in the Bougainville Island, Bougainville Autonomous Region, Papua New Guinea. This hill is internationally known due to its biodiversity. It has numerous bird species, archaeology resources and estimatedly over ninety plant species that are endemic to this region

Geographically, Ilultes is situated about 15 kilometers west of Buka Passage. It stands as a rugged terrain, with steep slopes and varied elevations. Apart from the core area of Ilultes, the hill's entire side represents a system of caves, volcanic rocks, and thin cover of fertile soil. This terrain varies in its vegetation cover due to the change in elevation.

Ilultes has a rich cultural heritage and is an archaeological site. It has a history dating back to the mid Stone age. Tools created during this period have been discovered from this hill. Apart from the habitations and burial sites of early humans, cave paintings and artifacts from earlier Stone Age have been identified. The rocks of Ilultes are primarily rocks of volcanogenic and subvolcanic metamorphic origin that were deformed due to faulting.
