The Iberian Peninsula, known in Catalan as la península Ibèrica and in Portuguese as a Península Ibérica, is a geographic region in southwestern Europe. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the east and south, the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, and the Strait of Gibraltar to the south, separating it from Africa. The peninsula is dominated by the Pyrenees mountain range to the northeast, which forms a natural border with France.
