IPv4dependent is a term used to describe networks or devices that primarily rely on IPv4 for their operation and connectivity. This dependency arises because IPv4 has been the dominant internet protocol for decades, leading to widespread adoption and a vast existing infrastructure built around it. Many legacy systems, applications, and networking equipment were designed exclusively for IPv4 and may not natively support IPv6, the successor protocol.

This dependence can create challenges as the internet transitions towards IPv6.
