Húnaþing
Húnaþing is a municipality located in northern Iceland, within the Vesturland region. The name Húnaþing is derived from the ancient Icelandic parliamentary assembly, the Þing, which was held in this area. The municipality was formed in 2023 through the merger of the former Húnaflói municipality and the municipality of Sveitarfélagið Strandir. This consolidation aimed to create a larger administrative unit to better serve the residents of this vast and sparsely populated region.
The landscape of Húnaþing is characterized by a mix of coastal areas, fjords, and expansive rural territories.
Húnaþing is committed to preserving its natural environment and cultural heritage while fostering economic development. Efforts
