Hõbefluorid

Hõbefluorid is the chemical compound with the formula AgF. It is a white or colorless crystalline solid and is the only sparingly soluble silver halide. It is soluble in water, but its solubility decreases with increasing temperature. AgF is a diamagnetic compound.

Hõbefluorid can be prepared by reacting silver carbonate with hydrofluoric acid. The reaction is:

It can also be prepared by the reaction of silver oxide with hydrofluoric acid:

Hõbefluorid is an ionic compound. It is a white solid with a melting point of 435 °C. It is soluble in water, with a solubility of 1.5 g/100 mL at 25 °C. The solubility decreases with increasing temperature. It is also soluble in ammonia, methanol, and ethanol.

Hõbefluorid is a strong oxidizing agent. It is used as a catalyst in some organic reactions, such as the synthesis of fluorinated compounds. It is also used in photography, although less commonly than silver bromide or silver chloride.
