Hårrötterna

Hårrötterna, often referred to as hair roots, are the fundamental structures from which hair grows. Located beneath the skin's surface, each hair root is embedded within a tiny sac called a follicle. This follicle is a complex organ responsible for producing and nourishing the hair shaft, the visible part of the hair that extends above the skin.

The hair root comprises several key components. The bulb is the enlarged, club-shaped base of the follicle, containing a dermal papilla. This papilla is a small cone of connective tissue that provides blood supply to the growing hair and contains vital nutrients and hormones that regulate hair growth. Surrounding the dermal papilla is the matrix, a region of actively dividing cells that produce the hair shaft.

The process of hair growth, known as the hair cycle, involves distinct phases: anagen (growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (rest). The hair root is actively involved in the anagen phase, where cell division in the matrix leads to the elongation of the hair shaft. Hormonal fluctuations, genetics, and overall health can significantly influence the efficiency and duration of these phases, impacting hair thickness, growth rate, and potential for hair loss.
