Hyrum

Hyrum is a given name of Hebrew origin, meaning "my brother is a twin." It is most famously associated with Hyrum Smith, a prominent figure in early Latter Day Saint history.

Hyrum Smith was born on February 9, 1800, in Tunbridge, Vermont. He was the elder brother of Joseph Smith Jr., the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. Hyrum was a devoted follower and staunch supporter of his brother's religious endeavors. He played a significant role in the early organization and growth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various leadership positions.

Hyrum was known for his unwavering faith, his gentle nature, and his physical strength. He was a counselor in the First Presidency of the Church alongside his brother. Tragically, Hyrum Smith, along with his brother Joseph, was murdered by a mob on June 27, 1844, in Carthage, Illinois. Their deaths are a pivotal event in Latter Day Saint history, and both are revered as martyrs by members of the Church.

The name Hyrum, while not common, is still used today. It carries with it the legacy of faith, loyalty, and sacrifice associated with Hyrum Smith. The city of Hyrum, Utah, is named in his honor.
