Hypothiokyanátový

Hypothiokyanátový refers to a chemical compound containing the hypothiocyanate anion, OSCN⁻. This anion is a sulfur-containing analogue of the thiocyanate anion, SCN⁻, where an oxygen atom has replaced a sulfur atom. Hypothiocyanates are generally less stable and less commonly encountered than thiocyanates.

The hypothiocyanate ion is produced in biological systems, particularly in mammals, as part of the innate immune response. It is generated by the enzyme lactoperoxidase in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and thiocyanate ions. This enzymatic reaction, known as the lactoperoxidase system, helps to kill bacteria and other microorganisms. Hypothiocyanite is a potent antimicrobial agent that disrupts bacterial cell membranes and inhibits essential enzymes.
