Hydratoituneet is a Finnish term used to describe substances that have undergone hydration, meaning they have incorporated water molecules into their structure. The word is formed from hydratoida (to hydrate) and the suffix -oitunut, which indicates a state that has been achieved. In practice, hydratoituneet compounds can have water that is chemically bound within a crystal lattice (water of crystallization) or water that is coordinated to metal centers as ligands.

In chemistry, hydrates are defined by their water content, and the specific water molecules are often essential to the compound’s stability and properties. Common examples include copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate, CuSO4·5H2O, and calcium sulfate dihydrate, CaSO4·2H2O (gypsum).
