Husholdningsstrømmer, often translated as household electricity or domestic current, refers to the electrical power supplied to homes and other residential buildings for the operation of appliances and lighting. In most parts of the world, this power is delivered as alternating current (AC), meaning the direction of the electric charge flow reverses periodically. The standard frequency and voltage vary by region, with common examples being 230 volts at 50 hertz in Europe and 240 volts at 60 hertz in North America.

The electricity is transmitted from power generation plants through a network of high-voltage transmission lines, then stepped down to lower voltages for distribution within neighborhoods. Finally, it enters individual homes through a service drop and is connected to a main electrical panel, also known as a breaker box or fuse box. This panel distributes the power to various circuits throughout the house, each protected by a circuit breaker or fuse to prevent overloads. Common household appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, and computers all rely on this fundamental electrical supply.
