Hujjatning

Hujjatning is the genitive or possessive form of the Uzbek noun hujjat, meaning document or proof. It is used to show possession or close association in a noun phrase, functioning as the connector between the possessor and the possessed noun. In practice, hujjatning appears before the noun that relates to the document, for example indicating ownership, authorship, or a related attribute.

The usual construction is possessor + ning + possessed. Here hujjat is the possessor, and the following noun denotes what belongs to or is linked to the document. Common examples include hujjatning nusxasi (a copy of the document), hujjatning muallifi (the author of the document), or hujjatning yo’nalishi (the directive or guidance of the document). This form is widely used in formal and legal Uzbek to create precise, attributive phrases without repeating the base noun.

Etymology and usage: hujjat originates from Arabic and has been integrated into Uzbek vocabulary. The possessive suffix ning is part of the Turkic genitive/possessive system, enabling clear expression of relationships within noun phrases. Hujjatning constructions are frequent in official correspondence, administrative records, and legal texts, where exact attribution and association with a document are important. While other expressions such as hujjat bo‘yicha (according to the document) or hujjatga qarab offer alternatives, hujjatning remains a standard way to link a document to related nouns.
