Hovoím

Hovoím is a verb form that translates roughly to “I speak.” In modern standard Czech and Slovak, this exact spelling does not appear as the present-tense first-person form of the corresponding verbs for speaking. The standard forms are hovořím in Czech and hovorím in Slovak. The form hovoím is therefore considered nonstandard in contemporary usage and may be encountered only as a misspelling, in dialectal writings, or in historical texts that do not reflect current orthography.

Etymology and related forms

The underlying verb for speaking in Slavic languages is related to the nouns for speech (hovor, hovor). In Czech the infinitive is hovořit and in Slovak it is hovoriť; these give rise to the first-person present forms hovořím and hovorím respectively in standard usage. The nonstandard form hovoím would share the same root, but its spelling does not align with modern standard conventions.

Usage

Because hovoím is not part of the standard grammar, it is not used in formal writing or instruction in Czech or Slovak. When encountered, it is typically treated as an orthographic error or as a feature of nonstandard dialects or historical texts rather than as a recognized contemporary form.
