Homodimeerit

Homodimeerit are protein complexes formed by two identical polypeptide chains. These subunits associate through non-covalent interactions such as hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic interactions, and electrostatic forces, creating a functional unit. The formation of a homodimer can significantly alter the protein's three-dimensional structure and, consequently, its biological activity. Often, the dimeric form is required for proper function, which might involve binding to ligands, interacting with other molecules, or stabilizing a particular protein conformation.
