Holmium165

Holmium-165 (165Ho) is the only stable isotope of the element holmium. Its nucleus consists of 67 protons and 98 neutrons, giving it a mass number of 165. As the only naturally occurring isotope, it is also the most abundant isotope of holmium, making up 100% of the element's terrestrial presence. This means that any sample of elemental holmium found on Earth will consist solely of holmium-165 atoms.

The nuclear spin of holmium-165 is 7/2, which is a non-zero value. This property is significant in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, where it allows holmium-165 to be detected and studied. Its stability means it does not undergo radioactive decay, and therefore does not pose a radiological hazard. Holmium-165 is a key component in the production of holmium-166, a radioactive isotope used in medical applications such as cancer therapy and diagnostic imaging. The stable holmium-165 serves as the precursor for creating this medically relevant radioisotope through neutron activation.
