Holhian

Holhian refers to the Holhian people, an ethnolinguistic group native to the Holhian Highlands in the eastern region of the fictional continent of Eldara. They also refer to the Holhian language, spoken by the community and its dialects. Communities are concentrated in highland valleys and border regions, with smaller diasporic communities in coastal towns.

Holhian is an agglutinative language with subject–object–verb order, featuring a rich system of noun classes and verbal aspect. The writing system, the Holhian script, emerged in the medieval period and is used in education and literature alongside Latin-derived scripts in some regions.

Based on linguistic and archaeological records, Holhian society formed in the highlands around 1st millennium CE, with mountain agriculture and steppes trade. The Holhian underwent state formation in the late medieval era, followed by contact with neighboring cultures and later modernization.

Holhi culture emphasizes community kinship, oral storytelling, and craftwork such as pottery and metalwork. Social organization features clan-based lineages and councils of elders; gender roles vary by region. Music features wind instruments and polyrhythmic drumming.

Today Holhian communities pursue agriculture, mining, and tourism, while maintaining language through schooling and media initiatives. Linguistic and cultural rights are part of regional policies, with ongoing efforts to preserve dialect diversity and promote inclusive representation in regional governance.
